ASUS Zenfone 8 Flip: Features, Reviews, and Price

Along with the Zenfone 8, ASUS brings the new Zenfone 8 Flip. A mobile with high-end features that stands out especially for a triple rotating camera, to make the functions of the rear and front camera in a similar way to what we saw with the Zenfone 7 Pro.

With a Super AMOLED display with no hole, a 5,000 mAh battery, and the powerful Snapdragon 888, the Zenfone 8 Flip is an original flagship for those looking to take advantage of the triple camera for both photos and selfies.

A distraction-free AMOLED display thanks to the rotating camera

Zenfone 8 Flip

ASUS incorporates a 6.67-inch Super AMOLED panel with FullHD+ resolution. A screen in 20:9 format that stands out especially for arriving without any type of addition that cuts the image, no ‘notch’ or hole in the panel. Just the screen.

Manufactured by Samsung, the panel offers a refresh rate of 90 Hz and an average brightness of 700 nits, being able to reach 1,000 nits at its peak. The NanoEdge panel supports HDR10+ content and comes with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels.

With a 92% ratio, the Zenfone 8 Flip offers a design where the display is the main highlight on the front. The fingerprint reader is located under the screen and we have 2.5D Gorilla Glass 6 protection. Unlike the Zenfone 8, it does not have IP68 certification. Predictably because of the rotating camera system.

For the construction, they have used an alloy “liquid metal” that makes that in a crash the shape is retained and not deformed, for the system to continue working, as explained by ASUS. Compared to the Zenfone 7 Pro, the angle control of this rotating camera has been improved. It also has a drop detection system to fold the module.

Snapdragon 888 and fast charging 30W

Zenfone 8 Flip

Like all other high-end cell phones, the Zenfone 8 Flip incorporates the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, manufactured in 5 nanometers. For the GPU there is an Adreno 660 added and for connectivity comes an X60 modem for 5G.

The device also comes with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and storage of 128 or 256 GB UFS 3.1, expandable via microSD up to 2 TB.

The battery is another highlight of the device, with around 5,000 mAh which is a “rarity among flagships,” as ASUS explains. To complement it a 30W fast-charging system is available, although it doesn’t have wireless charging support. ASUS believes that while it’s a nice feature, it takes away space. They prefer to use it to increase battery capacity.

The device arrives with ZenUI 8 based on Android 11 and at the sound level, it incorporates a dual stereo speaker, with an 8x9mm driver on top and another 12x17mm driver in the lower area. It is also complemented by the presence of a triple microphone for noise reduction.

Triple rotating camera with wide-angle, telephoto, and macro

This second generation of the ‘Flip Camera’ adds a three-lens system with a new, faster, and more precise motor to deploy and act as a front camera.

The lens is protected with Gorilla Glass 3 and has a more precise angle control to place the cameras in the required orientation.

The main sensor of the ASUS Zenfone 8 Flip is a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 along with an f/1.8 aperture lens. The Sony IMX363 is added, being the first mobile to incorporate this 12-megapixel sensor with a 113-degree wide-angle and the possibility of macro photography with a distance of 4 centimeters.

In the third camera, there is a telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, equivalent to 80 mm, and with hybrid zoom up to 12x.

According to ASUS, the rotating system is prepared to withstand up to 300,000 rotations, equivalent to 150 uses per day for more than 5 years.

Pricing and Availability of the Zenfone 8 Flip

The new ASUS Zenfone 8 Flip will be available in two versions of 8/128 GB and 8/256 GB, at a starting price of €799.
