The Galaxy A03S is a Samsung entry-level cell phone launched in August 2021. The model arrived on the market just seven months after the Galaxy A02S, announced in January of the same year. Both have basic features and a competitive price, below $200. The camera is triple in both smartphones and the screen also has the same size: 6.5 inches. The processor and RAM, on the other hand, have had a jump. Check out the differences between the models below.

Screen and design

Galaxy A03s

From the outside, Galaxy A02S and Galaxy A03S are quite similar: both have plastic bodies with a bar design and are differentiated by the distinctive texture present on the back cover of the A02S. The glass screen with LCD is 6.5 inches on both devices. There is no mention of any kind of screen protection or IP certification against water and dust.

Since these are entry-level phones, there are no relevant differences in the refresh rate or demonstrated brightness. Both displays have HD+ resolution, which Samsung calls Infinity-V, which should display crisp and clear images as much as possible on a basic smartphone.

The notch that houses the front cameras is quite similar on both models, as is the camera module that protrudes over the back cover. The devices also feature a 3.5 mm headphone jack and are dual SIM, which makes it possible to use two phone chips. Both are available in three colors: black, blue and red.

Cameras

Galaxy A02S

From the number of megapixels to the lens aperture, the Galaxy A02S and Galaxy A03S have very similar camera modules. The very arrangement of the sensors in line shows Samsung’s tendency not to tinker with something that was already positive in the January 2021 model.

The Galaxy A02S has a set of sensors arranged in a row next to the flash. In addition to the main camera, it has a macro camera, for shots very close to the target, which ensures more detail in the photos generated. There is also a depth camera, which creates the popular background blur effect in photos.

The sensors are arranged as follows:

  • 13 MP main camera (f/2.2)
  • 2 MP Macro (f/2.4)
  • 2 MP depth (f/2.4)
  • 5 MP front camera (f/2.2)

The Galaxy A03S has an even greater focus on photos with a blurred background, with the “bokeh effect”. It is present on the rear cameras and the selfie camera with the in-software Live Focus feature. With just one press of the bokeh button, the entire background is blurred using artificial intelligence. The sensors are distributed similarly to the A02S:

  • 13 MP main camera (f/2.2)
  • 2 MP Macro (f/2.4)
  • 2 MP depth (f/2.4)
  • 5 MP front camera (f/2.2)

Performance and Storage

Galaxy A03s

In storage, there was a jump in the generation change of the phones. While the Galaxy A02S has only 32 GB of internal memory, the Galaxy A03S boasts 64 GB. While the number is not the best in the market, the gain makes a difference to the end-user. The actual memory available to the owner of a Galaxy A02S is only 21.3 GB while on the Galaxy A03S, this figure jumps to 47.3 GB – more than double.

There has also been an improvement in the processing of phones. Even though both processors have eight cores, the A03S can reach a higher frequency, which should ensure better performance when running games and heavier applications. While the A02S used a Snapdragon 450 processor, which reaches a speed of 1.8 GHz the A03S comes equipped with a MediaTek MT6765 processor, which reaches up to 2.3 GHz.

The improved performance of the A03S should also be reinforced by the increased RAM. It went from 3GB in the A02S model to 4GB. In practice, this should be reflected in better power management and multitasking. Both have a slot for MicroSD cards up to 1 TB in their drawer, without the need to share space for the second chip.

Battery

Battery

There are no surprises in the battery. Both count on 5,000 mAh batteries, which is positive for the consumer. The proposal is that the user will not run out of battery during the day. Although Samsung does not specify how long the device will be away from the socket, the phones should reach at least the end of the day and still charge, as long as there is no intense use of applications and games.

Both phones are enabled for the use of turbochargers of up to 15W, even though the packaging only includes 5W chargers. To get maximum charging speed, it is necessary to purchase a separate charger.

Android Version

Android 11

Both the Galaxy A02S and Galaxy A03S already have Android 11, with the A03S receiving the factory version. In addition, Samsung’s One UI customization is also present on the devices. According to Samsung’s update policy, both devices should complete the four-year cycle and stay updated for at least two more years.

Among the new features brought by Android 11 is the possibility of grouping chat notifications, native screen recording, and the implementation of a new privacy policy.

The changes in Samsung’s One UI, on the other hand, range from the redesign of all widgets to cosmetic customizations of the system. The version present in both is the One UI Core, intended for more modest devices.

Additional Features

Since these are entry-level devices, some features are not present in either the Galaxy A02S or the Galaxy A03S. There is no connection to the ultra-high-speed 5G network, nor access to NFC – technology responsible for payments by proximity. Despite this, the A03S features a fingerprint scanner on the power button. Both devices also feature a P2 connection for headphones.

Pricing and Availability

The Galaxy A03S is available on Amazon for $178.53, while the Galaxy A02S can be found for $149.99.
