Screen and Design

Galaxy S20 Ultra

The Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with a larger display than ROG Phone 2. The South Korean mobile phone features a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with Quad HD+ resolution (3200 x 1440 pixels). The ROG Phone 2 has 6.59 inches, Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels), but with AMOLED technology. The gamer smartphone also comes with a 120 Hz refresh rate, which improves the experience in games and videos.

The two phones are very different in design. The Galaxy S20 Ultra has a curved display and a hole in the screen to house the front camera. At the rear, the cameras are grouped in a rectangle.

In the case of the Asus smartphone, there is also no notch, but the phone has thick upper and lower edges. The design is developed with characteristics typical of the gamer audience, including a LED that illuminates the Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand.

Camera

Samsung’s new premium mobile phone features a quad camera. The photo set is divided into a 108 MP wide-angle, 12 MP ultra-wide-angle, 48 MP telephoto lens, and a DephtVision sensor, which means a 3D camera. For the selfies, Samsung has allocated a 40 MP sensor. Also, the S20 Ultra has a hybrid system that allows a zoom of up to 100x.

The ROG Phone 2 has two fewer cameras than the Galaxy S20 Ultra, but the main sensor has 48 MP, while the second sensor comes with 13 MP. For selfies, it has 24 MP.

Performance and Storage

The Galaxy S20 Ultra has two versions, one with traditional LTE and another with 5G internet compatibility. Because of that, it comes with two processor options. The version has Exynos 990 (octa-core up to 2.7 GHz) and supports only fourth-generation networks in Brazil and some countries, and there is another model available in the USA and other countries. In this case, the mobile comes with Snapdragon 865 (octa-core up to 2.8 GHz).

AnTuTu’s latest ranking showed that Qualcomm’s processor does better in testing. The difference in the chip was the subject of a petition from customers asking the South Korean giant to stop using Exynos line processors on the brand’s smartphones.

The processor comes with 12GB or 16GB RAM and has 128GB or 512GB storage. It also has space for microSD cards of up to 1 TB.

In the case of ROG Phone 2, the processor is the Snapdragon 855 (eight cores up to 2.96 GHz), the RAM can be 8 GB or 12 GB and there are two storage options, 128 GB and 512 GB.

Battery

In this respect, the Galaxy S20 Ultra cannot outperform ROG Phone 2. The Asus phone comes with a 6,000 mAh battery, enough power for gamers to spend hours playing. The Samsung smartphone comes with a 5,000 mAh of battery but has fast charging to recover more power in less time.

Operating system and additional features

The Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with Android 10 that features dark mode. Samsung has also improved the system for One UI 2, while the ROG Phone 2 comes with Android 9 (Pie), and also has changed the interface made by the manufacturer, the ROG UI. It features gamer-style icons, however, the user can choose to use the Zen UI, which is a purer version of the system.

Samsung’s mobile phone has facial recognition and fingerprint biometrics integrated into the screen. It also has IP68 certification, which makes the smartphone water-resistant. Both models feature NFC, which allows remote payments with Samsung Pay and Google Pay.

ROG Phone 2 is still compatible with several unique peripherals such as the second screen, cooler II cooling fan, additional 5,000 mAh battery, and cables to connect to monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Price

The Galaxy S20 Ultra arrived for the suggested price of $1400 in the version with 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.
