HiSense A7 5G: The first 5G Mobile with an Electronic Ink Screen

HiSense is a brand that in European territory we know mostly from its televisions, but in China, its home market, the company also launches smartphones. Moreover, Hisense has a range, the A, which is comprised solely and exclusively of devices with an electronic ink screen. This is the one we are interested in today, as a new and distinctive member has just been added: the HiSense A7 5G.

Following in the footsteps of the rest of the A series terminals, the HiSense A7 5G has an electronic ink screen, which is already unusual, although the most striking thing is that mobile of this type, which is probably not used much for viewing streaming content or playing games, is compatible with 5G networks. In any case, it’s official, so let’s get to know it better.

5G and electronic ink

The HiSense A7 5G is a fairly simple and unpretentious device. On the back, there is a fingerprint reader and a small photo module where you can see the (unique) camera and the LED flash. It also has a headphone jack, something you don’t see much of these days. The device is available in black and white. Be that as it may, let’s talk about its screen.

HiSense claims that the front has an “ultra-narrow edge” of 3.36 millimeters, making it the “narrowest edge of electronic ink screen products in the industry today. It is 6.7 inches in size, something for users looking for a cell phone to read. More screen equals more content before turning the page, after all.

It is a monochrome screen, unfortunately, but its resolution is 300 pixels per inch. Of course, it is backlit. It has several refresh rate options, namely 688 ms, 364 ms, 174 ms, and 136 ms, figures too high to play with, for example, but more than enough to read in an e-book. The software has been adjusted to improve the contrast of the letters. As you can see, it is a smartphone very well thought out for reading.

This is compatible with 5G NSA and SA networks and supports seamless switching between 4G and 5G. It also mounts an AK4377AECB DAC that supports high-resolution audio. It is powered by a 4,770 mAh battery with a fast 18W charge and Android 10.
