HP’s portfolio of PCs and laptops is very lively, and among its latest proposals are the new HP OMEN 16 and HP Victus 15, which are updated versions of the models we have been following for some time now.
These laptops maintain practically the same exterior design, but inside they feature the latest from Intel and AMD and, attention, a cooling system that, according to the manufacturer, takes these CPUs to new heights.

A solid and (promise) cool bet
Last year’s models were already a very striking bet for gamers, and now the firm has taken the opportunity to improve on those designs by changing some components and internal designs.
Thus, a new cooling system with an additional fifth heat pipe and a fourth auxiliary air outlet helps the new Intel and AMD chips (and dedicated graphics cards) perform remarkably well. The OMEN 16 models can be configured with an Intel Core i9-12900H or an AMD Ryzen 9-6900HX.
In Victus 15 the bet goes down a bit (the AMD ones reach 5800H), but even so, they are still very decent proposals for gaming if we do not need so many features or want to go to a somewhat more affordable budget.
According to HP, the combination of all this makes the new models perform up to 36% better than the 2021 models, in addition to being 5% quieter and having a 14% lower SSD temperature.
There is good news on other fronts: the aforementioned SSDs now take advantage of the PCIe 4.0 standard and therefore have more headroom in transfer rates, while in the case of the graphics card it can go up to an RTX 3070 Ti for the OMEN 16s.
Interestingly, the Victus 15s are a step down from last year’s models: in the former, we could find configurations with up to an RTX 3060, but now we can expect a 3050 Ti or an RX 5600M in the model with AMD CPU.
The screens are still in 16:9 format, which is partly logical due to the gaming focus, but it would certainly have been interesting to have the 16:10 format, which would allow us to have a little more vertical resolution. Even so, these models have refresh rates of up to 165 Hz in the OMEN 16 and 144 Hz in the Victus 15.
In terms of connectivity, we are very well served, and in addition to the USB-A and USB-C ports, we have an SD reader, an Ethernet port especially welcome in online gaming, and, yes, an HDMI 2.1 connector to connect these computers directly to monitors and TVs that can take advantage of this standard.
