Huawei has just presented the renewal of its Huawei Mate XS, the company’s foldable device. The new generation is called Huawei Mate XS 2, a device that comes with a Qualcomm processor, a new cooling system, and a somewhat more refined design compared to the previous generation. The XS essence is still present
Huawei continues with its design different from the rest of foldable for its Mate XS 2. The construction materials stand out, as this device is made of aerospace titanium alloy (the same used by Apple), in combination with fiberglass. The hinge and the structure of the screen itself have been reinforced, to promise good durability against folds.
The processor it mounts is from the previous generation, the Snapdragon 888 4G with no option to use 5G due to the US veto. A tough loss for the Mate XS 2, since its predecessor, could use 5G with its Kirin processor. An important competitive disadvantage compared to its rivals, that it tries to alleviate with the first tri-band WiFi technology. It thus works on one 2.4 GHz band and two 5 GHz bands, to improve the connection (provided that the router allows it).
But the standout feature is the screen, foldable, with no apparent fold, and in two formats. When unfolded, it is a 7.8-inch cell phone, with a format more similar to that of a tablet than a regular phone. When folded it is a phone in a fairly vertical format, in the style of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
However, this device does not have two screens, but only one that folds and unfolds. When folded it drops down to 6.5 inches but maintains a high refresh rate of 120 Hz. The maximum resolution when unfolded is 2480 × 2200 pixels, and when folded it drops to 2480 × 1176 pixels.
The battery that powers it is 4,600 mAh (4,880 mAh in the collector’s edition), accompanied by a 66W fast charge. The photographic section consists of three sensors, a 50-megapixel main, an ultra-wide-angle of 13, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens that promises three magnifications optically.
There is no trace of Google services on this phone, which arrives with HarmonyOS 2, without details on which version of Android has been based for this phone.
