EMUI 12 Without Android 12
Don’t look for Google Maps on this Nova 9. Instead, you’ll find Petal Maps, the mapping and GPS navigation tool that Huawei has been working on for a couple of years now will replace Google Maps. At the moment it is far from what is offered on Android, but it is gradually gaining features such as indicating which lane you should drive in to not miss any turns or exits. It can also tell you all these steps even when you are offline.
Harmony is the Huawei operating system that drives all the features of this Nova 9. All this with the usual look and possibilities of EMUI, which arrives in its version 12. Something that will allow users to use the mobile like any Android device, but with some additions. For example, there will be a space in the notification bar for connected devices for quick management. In addition, the connections of the ecosystem of this company have been improved, with quick options to bring the mobile screen to a Huawei Matebook laptop, for example. Or the most curious and practical: link the mobile storage to a laptop for quick access to files and documents as if it were connected by cable.
Also, you’ll have to get used to AppGallery to download apps and games, and Petal Search as a search engine for absolutely everything in this Huawei Nova 9.
Lots of Cameras and Lots of Artificial Intelligence
But the key in this Huawei Nova 9 comes from the cameras. The module is very similar to the one seen in the Huawei P50. It protrudes notably from the phone to accommodate four sensors that allow all types of photographs: normal, wide-angle, macro, and portrait.
The main sensor is a 50-megapixel sensor that continues to take advantage of the technology exploited in the Huawei P for several years with large sensors and RYYB composition and not RGB. It has a double yellow sensor that gives the image much more luminosity to get photos with more detail in situations of great darkness. So night photography should not be a problem in this case. Something that will have to be checked.
It is accompanied by a sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens so fashionable among young people. Even if you are not looking for the fisheye effect. Also, functionalities have been added such as continuing the recording alternating between the rear and front camera, as is already the case in Instagram stories. Or recording the scene from two of the device’s lenses at the same time.
The idea here is clear: to produce content for social networks. A point that young people value and that Huawei facilitates them with this smartphone. And also with the Petal Clips app they have presented, where you can edit, add effects, and get colorful content easily.
Fast Screen and Fast Charging
Huawei also boasts about the screen of the Nova 9. Its resolution is FullHD+, although the most interesting thing is that it has curved premium finishes. Its 6.57-inch screen has a 120Hz refresh rate. There is also an important nod to gamers by achieving a touch sampling rate of 300 Hz.
The screen refresh rate shouldn’t scare prospective buyers about the battery life. Although it only has 4,300 mAh (this is a good figure given the 175-gram weight and the slimness of the device), it is its fast charging that stands out. With 66 watts it only takes about 38 minutes to charge this battery to 100%. And, by the way, Huawei does include the charger in the box.
Power Without 5G
Mind you, if you are looking for a mid-range mobile with 5G this is not the case. Huawei is still facing some issues due to the US veto. So it has loaded this Huawei Nova 9 with the Snapdragon 778 4G processor. It is powerful and capable for both current apps and most relatively graphically demanding games. It is accompanied by 8GB of RAM to give it solvency and agility. It is more than enough for everything to run smoothly.

This Nova 9 from Huawei arrives in two colors: stellar blue with an iridescent finish and a more classic black. The good thing is that, in both cases, the protection against fingerprints and unintentional slips seems effective. The finish is nice and shiny in the case of the blue model. And beware, the finishes are of quality and with premium touches such as the curvature of the screen and casing on the sides or the thinness of the device, which measures only 7.77 millimeters.
