Huawei Watch GT2e: Features, Reviews, and Price

Smartwatches are becoming more and more like our smartphones. With the latest from Apple, we can make calls without having to carry the iPhone. Xiaomi, on the other hand, prefers a quantifier bracelet with just the right features (step counter, heart rate, and notifications). Then there is Huawei, which has a smartwatch that offers some features of the Mi Band, but with more options for sport and exercise in Android than the Apple Watch. This is the Huawei Watch GT2e.

This smartwatch is an improved version of the Watch GT2, which also comes at a lesser price. Both are very similar. They have the same processor: the A1 Chip. Also the same display, as well as the same storage settings. In these three areas, the GT2e does very well. The Chip is more than decent to perform all the tasks on the watch. Also the storage. The screen is very big and has AMOLED technology: the blacks are pure and the colors are a bit saturated but correct. The brightness is also very good, even outdoors.

A Sportier Design

GT2e

They primarily change in physical appearance and extra options. This GT2e has a bigger size (47 mm vs 46 from the new version), even though it’s the same screen size as the previous version. It also has a more sportive look: the side buttons do not protrude anymore, and the top and bottom, where the straps are located, are flat. Also, the previous model had a rather steep curvature on the dial, while this model has a flatter screen.

The strap is made of silicone. In this case, there is no option to change it. A somewhat negative point for people who usually change the strap on different occasions. For example, when going to work or a dinner party. But the strap is very, very comfortable. The rubber fits quite well and has those circles that, besides giving it a different look, help sweat or water to dry quickly. It helps to better adapt the watch to the wrist, as it can be fitted into any circle.

An interesting feature is that this Watch GT2e is not only waterproof but also dustproof.

Designed with 100 Sports modes

The Watch GT2e includes up to 100 sport modes in different modalities (85 sport modes and 15 training modes). Each mode is adapted to the needs and type of activity and offers different options to complete it. For example, the option to intensify the exercise level. The interface of the WG 2e warns when you have completed the exercise, and through the application, you can see a chart with the progress. Also, WG2e shows how long you should rest after each activity.

To the sports list, you can add other sports that are stored in the system. Although many of them use the same options, it is advisable to save them by categories to have progress in the app later.

This watch also has a sleep meter. As it is not necessary to charge it every day, you can sleep with the device on your wrist, and it will measure the state of your sleep. When you wake up, it will show you a history of the hours of sleep and the different phases you have had during the night.

It also includes the measurement of oxygen saturation through different sensors. As well as the TruSeen 3.5 technology, which is capable of monitoring the heart rate in real time.

Proprietary Operating System

As for the software, the Watch GT2e includes its operating system. This has a very simple interface, with the right and necessary applications. Unfortunately, there is no option to add third-party applications, so you cannot use other sports apps or media players like Spotify. The clock enables you to see the notifications that arrive on your mobile. As the screen is quite large, you can see the messages. It also notifies you of calls and you can even answer them directly. Either via the clock’s built-in microphone and speaker or the wireless headset.

Again, a negative point, and that is that you cannot answer from the clock, but have to use your mobile phone.

The App where all activities are synchronized and where you can add some settings is available in both iOS and Android. The pairing with the clock is simple, and there are many controls and options that are available. It also synchronizes with the health application you have on your mobile.

Price and Conclusion of the Huawei Watch GT2e

Watch GT2e

The Huawei Watch GT2e can be purchased for $200. It is a very interesting option if you are looking for a sports smartwatch. However, there are a few things to consider. Firstly, it’s a big watch. It’s not for every wrist. Perhaps it is better to go for the 38mm option, which, although it does not have such a sporty design, is more comfortable on small wrists. Besides the size, the software is somewhat limited in terms of third-party applications, since it doesn’t have an app store.

However, to get those functions that the GT2e lacks, you would have to go to more complete models, and therefore, at a higher cost. For $200 (and on sale in some shops) there is no better option. Especially if you think that you are not going to use it very intensively, more than reading the notifications and using it for sport, which I think is the most important thing in this aspect against the competition.
