The iPhone 12 Pro Max is one of the four phones in the iPhone 12 line, recently launched by Apple. The smartphone debuts a 6.7-inch screen and features the most powerful processor of the new generation, with up to 50% higher performance than its competitors. It also features 5G internet connectivity.

Screen, Design, and Colors
The largest model of the new generation, the iPhone 12 Pro Max arrives with a 6.7″ screen. The display is OLED, as well as the iPhone 11 Pro Max 6.5 inches, but offers more brightness and more vivid colors. According to the manufacturer, the new iPhone has 3.4 million pixels, the largest number on an iPhone to date. Both have the Super Retina XDR panel, which provides improvements in brightness control.
The look has also changed. The new generation of the smartphone has changed the curved edges for a more square design, similar to the old iPhone 4. Both have a bright stainless steel finish, but the colors are different. While the iPhone 11 Pro Max can be found in gold, green, silver, and space gray, the new generation comes in blue, gold, silver, and graphite.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max keeps the notch present in the previous generation, but the edges have become leaner. For greater security, it features the Ceramic Shield technology on the screen. According to the manufacturer, the glass is more resistant than any other mobile display and promises four times more durability against falls than its predecessor.
Cameras
Both smartphones have a triple camera in the back, all with the same 12 megapixels resolution.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max, however, has larger sensors, increasing the amount of light captured by the ultra-wide camera. This modification should translate into considerably better photos in low-light environments when capturing images at a more open angle.
The photo set has also received software enhancements, with the night mode receiving improvements and can even be used to shoot photos in portrait mode thanks to the LiDAR scanner – which measures the time it takes for light to reflect on an object, creating a depth map of any space.
For selfies, both have a 12 MP camera and f/2.2 aperture. With the new iPhone, however, it is possible to have selfies produced in night mode. Also, it is now possible to record with Dolby Vision technology on the new device. For this, the iPhone 12 Pro Max uses the TrueDepth camera, also present on the iPhone 11 Pro Max and responsible for unlocking the phone through Face ID, and Apple facial recognition.
In terms of video recording, the HDR recording was 8-bit from the previous generation to 10-bit, which tends to allow more realistic videos. The highlight, however, is the possibility of recording and editing videos with Dolby Vision quality, something is never seen on a smartphone until now.
Performance and Storage
While the iPhone 11 Pro Max ran on an Apple A13 Bionic processor, the successor arrives with the new A14 Bionic, the first five-nanometer chip on a smartphone. More advanced than its predecessor, it promises to be faster and more energy-efficient. According to the manufacturer, the new processor is the best for mobile devices on the market.
For storage, the iPhone 11 Pro Max is available in 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB options, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max starts at 128GB and can also be purchased in 256GB and 512GB versions of data space.
Battery
Apple has not reported the exact battery capacity of the iPhone 12 Pro Max in mAh. However, the expectation here is that there is not so much difference between mobile phones. Both offer autonomy for 20 hours of video playback and up to 80 hours of audio playback. However, the innovation regarding charging is the introduction of MagSafe to the iPhone.
The MagSafe magnet set has been added to the back of the smartphone, allowing you to magnetically connect various accessories such as protective covers. The main function of the technology, however, is the enhancement of wireless charging on the device, connecting the device to chargers faster, including third-party models. Also, Apple promises that it is now possible to wirelessly refill the smartphone twice as fast as the previous generation.
iOS and Additional Resources
The iPhone 12 Pro Max comes out of the box with iOS 14 installed, the latest version of the operating system that is also available for the iPhone 11 Pro Max. Therefore, both have widgets, a new translation application, and App Library to organize the applications on the phone.
Regarding the additional features, the release comes with Face ID, a facial recognition system also presents in the predecessor. The two phones also allow the use of two operator chips at the same time, thanks to the compatibility with eSIM, and have an IP68 water resistance rating which has now been improved.
The new generation can be immersed in up to six meters for up to 30 minutes, while the previous version promised resistance to up to four meters. The iPhone 12 Pro Max also has a 5G connection, being the first iPhone line to bring fifth-generation internet connectivity.
Unlike the previous generation, the iPhone 12 Pro Max arrives without headphones and plugs in a case. According to the manufacturer, the decision was made based on environmental issues. With the removal of the items, the box became thinner. Now, besides the iPhone, the box of the new smartphone will only carry a USB-C cable for Lightning compatible with fast charging.
Price and Availability
The iPhone 12 Pro Max can be purchased for $1,099 (128 GB), $1,199 (256 GB), and $1,399 (512 GB).
It is worth remembering that all the models of the iPhone 12 line don’t come anymore with a plug adapter and headphones in the box. If you do not have these components should buy them separately. The decision has caused a stir among fans of the brand.
