The iPhone 12 Pro (Apple) rivals the Galaxy S20 Plus (Samsung) in the category of super-powerful smartphones – those with the best features of the moment. The smartphones have common specifications such as a triple camera and a powerful processor. However, the technical specifications differ in features such as screen and battery. Screen and Design
The Galaxy S20 Plus comes with a 6.7-inch display to compete with the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro. In terms of resolution, you can find a difference between the 2532 x 1170 pixels on the Apple cell phone for Samsung’s Quad HD+ 3200 x 1440 pixels panel. The Galaxy S20’s display uses second-generation Dynamic AMOLED technology, while the iPhone 12 Pro uses OLED technology.
As much as the S20 Plus is larger, the weight of the two phones is almost the same and both have a relief on the back to accommodate the cameras in the photo set. While the Galaxy 20 Ultra uses Gorilla Glass 6 for protection against falls and scratches, the iPhone 12 Pro features Ceramic Shield in the composition. It boasts a promise of resistance four times stronger than the iPhone 11.
Both devices still have IP68 certified water and dust resistance. In other words, they can enter the water.
Apple has chosen to keep the same notch seen in the previous generation. The Galaxy S20 Plus also keeps the hole in the screen to house the front camera but centralizes the sensor that used to be on the side of the panel. Another feature that can guarantee Samsung’s mobile phone highlights is the 120 Hz refresh rate, which allows the image to be updated faster.
Camera
The two devices have a triple camera in the back. All iPhone 12 Pro sensors take 12 MP photos. The set is distributed in the main camera, ultra-wide, and telephoto. The Galaxy S20 Plus, on the other hand, brings a 64 MP telephoto lens and 12 MP wide and ultra-wide cameras.
The S20 Plus also features a ToF sensor to aid in portrait mode and make the depth of field reading more accurate. The Apple device invests in the LiDAR scanner to perform this function of the environment depth map.
The Galaxy S10 Plus successor’s front camera features 10 MP to register selfies, while the iPhone 12 Pro uses a 12 MP sensor. The two cell phones have in common the night mode to enhance photography in low light conditions and also feature tools to stabilize the image. The Galaxy S20 offers a hybrid zoom of up to 30 times, while the iPhone 12 Pro features a digital zoom of 10 times and an optical zoom of up to 4 times.
In a test conducted by DxOMark, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max cameras attained good scores, but not enough to assume the first positions that were taken by Huawei and Xiaomi cell phones.
Performance and Storage
The iPhone 12 Pro offers more storage options, starting at 128GB and 256GB, and reaching 512GB. Apple does not release official RAM information, but experts say the smartphone has 6GB.
The Galaxy S20 Plus available in the market brings 128GB of space for data and 8GB of RAM. Unlike the iPhone, which does not have memory card support, the South Korean phone can increase storage by up to 1TB through a microSD card.
The iPhone 12 Pro uses the A14 Bionic chipset, which promises to be up to 50% more powerful than rival chips. However, Apple does not clarify how it arrives on this account.
The Galaxy S20 Plus comes with the Exynos 990 (octa-core up to 2.73 GHz), Samsung’s processor. Both must make beautiful even to perform heavier tasks.
Battery
Apple also does not disclose the exact battery capacity of cell phones, but specialized websites calculate that the iPhone 12 Pro has a 2,815mAh component. The company promises that the smartphone offers an autonomy of 65 hours of audio and 11 hours for streaming video playback.
The recharging of Apple’s new line of devices can be done by MagSafe technology, which restores power without the use of wires and with a maximum power of 15W. The plug adapter is now sold separately, and when a 20W charger is used, it promises to restore 50% of the battery within 30 minutes.
The Galaxy S20 Plus features a 4,500mAh battery that promises to provide 15 hours of 4G internet browsing, for example. The fast charging feature is also present on the Galaxy S20 Plus and, unlike the iPhone 12 Pro, it comes with a 25W charger in the case. Wireless charging and reverse charging can also be done with the Samsung handset.
System Version
The iPhone 12 Pro leaves the factory with iOS 14 but should receive iOS 15 in the future, an operating system that can be announced in the WWDC of 2021. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S20 Plus arrives with Android 10, but Samsung’s subsidiary in Egypt has released a list that contemplates the successor of S10 Plus in December updates for Android 11.
Additional Features
The main difference between the two devices in this respect is the Internet connection. While the iPhone 12 Pro connects to 5G, the Galaxy S20 Plus can only use fourth-generation networks – except for a special 5G version offered in some countries.
The fingerprint sensor used by the Galaxy S20 Plus is inserted into the cell phone screen, while the iPhone 12 Pro uses facial recognition through Face ID to unlock the smartphone. The MagSafe of the iPhone 12 Pro, in addition to enabling wireless charging, can attach accessories to your magnet system, such as the one used to store cards.
In common, both devices bring personalized assistants, being Siri for the iPhone and Bixby for the Samsung model. Both handsets also have NFC for proximity payments and Bluetooth 5.0.
Price
The iPhone 12 Pro arrived in the market in November 2020 for $999 in the version of 128 GB, $1,099 for the option with 256 GB, and reaches the house of $1,299 for the consumer who opts for 512 GB of storage.
