Apple may release the SE iPhone 2 in 2020 for $399. The information comes from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, famous for his predictions about the company’s supply chain. According to the expert, the successor of the iPhone SE will have 3 GB RAM, 64 GB or 128 GB storage and the same processor as iPhone 11. The phone, however, would have the same design as the iPhone 8 and would be available in space gray, silver and red.
Offering a cheaper iPhone model is seen as a way for Apple to compete with other manufacturers in emerging markets, such as India. The price pointed by Kuo is the same as the price charged by the company on iPhone SE in 2016. In addition, the value is $300 less than the price of the cheapest iPhone 11 in the US, which is already cheaper than the predecessor iPhone XR.
If the expert predictions come true, the second-generation iPhone SE should follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, with an older chassis-based design but built-in hardware close to the latest generation. Other rumors suggest that the phone would bring LCD screen and recover Touch ID, fingerprint reader that has not appeared in Apple releases since 2018. It may also bring cameras less powerful than the 2019 series.
The iPhone SE had a design inspired by the iPhone 5S, but with the same processor as the iPhone 6S, which had been released months earlier.
