LG OLED GX: Features, Reviews, and Prices

The new OLED televisions from LG are already beginning to arrive in stores. The Korean manufacturer is changing its range slightly in 2020 with new models and a clear commitment to 8K resolution. Thus, in 2020 the high-end OLED model will be the LG OLED ZX, an astonishing television with 8K resolution that very few will be able to afford. In the range of televisions with 4K resolution, there will be three models: WX, GX, and CX. Today we want to talk about the LG OLED GX, a new model from LG for users who are looking for a different design.

The most striking thing about this new model is that it has been designed to be hung on the wall. When you buy the TV you will not get a stand, but special support to place it on the wall. Thanks to a panel that is only 2 mm thick, it will look like the TV is “glued” to the wall instead of being hung. And if you want to place it on a piece of furniture, no problem, since you can buy optional metal legs.

The 2020 models have three new features at the image level. The first is a new generation of image processors, as the LG OLED GX is equipped with the 3rd generation Alpha 9 processor. This chip has deep learning algorithms and is capable of analyzing the screen content to automatically adjust for the best quality.

The second new feature is the Dolby Vision IQ system, which intelligently adjusts brightness, color, and contrast according to the content genre and light conditions. This means that, for content with Dolby Vision HDR, you always have the best image without having to change parameters manually.

And finally, the LG OLED GX also includes the Filmmaker Mode, an image mode developed by filmmakers to provide the image closest to what they were looking for when they shot the film or series. This mode, among other settings, disables motion interpolation to get a more cinematic image and show the artistic intent of each film.

Thinking about the Players

We saw it in last year’s models and it’s repeated this year. LG wants to conquer all kinds of players, especially PC players. And to do so, the LG OLED GX features Nvidia’s G-Sync technology. This makes computer games look more fluid and with less disruption, delay, or flickering (provided you have an Nvidia graphic).

In addition to Nvidia’s technology, we must add the incorporation of HDMI 2.1 connectors with VRR, ALLM, and eARC. The latest features allow u to display fast-moving content in higher resolution and synchronized and fluid graphics. Besides, the incorporation of this type of connection makes the new LG TV ready for the new generation consoles that will arrive at the end of the year.

In addition to the above, the new TV has a response time of 1 ms and the HGiG Mode, which shows the games with the colors and brightness that their creators wanted to show.

Dolby Atmos and WebOS 5.0 Sound

As it has a flat design that makes it look like a frame, the LG OLED GX has to bring out the sound through an external soundbar. This has Dolby Atmos technology to provide 360 degrees of sound.

Specifically, the LG OLED GX is equipped with a 4.2-channel system with 60W of power (40W for the woofer and 10W per channel). On the other hand, you can create real surround sound without wires by connecting two Bluetooth speakers to the TV.

Compared to the Smart TV system, the LG OLED GX comes with WebOS version 5.0. The LG system provides users with access to the most popular applications, including the application of two of the latest streaming services to come onto the market: Apple TV and Disney+.

You will also have access to LG’s ThinQ system and the most popular assistants in the market. All this quickly and easily thanks to the One Remote control with pointer and direct access buttons to both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Price and Availability

The new GX series, as well as the WX, are somewhat more exclusive, designed for users who don’t mind spending a little more to get a better design. The LG OLED GX is available in three different diagonals: 55, 65, and 77 inches. Their price is $2,299.99, $3,199.98, and $5,999.99 respectively.
