MacOS 13 Ventura: Apple improves MacBooks with a new version focused on productivity

The presentation of the new MacBook Air (2022) does not come alone. MacOS Ventura is now official and is focused on improvements to some of the main tools of the operating system for MacBooks. We are not facing a radical change in design, but a new version that comes to reinforce the use of MacOS among users. These are the new features of MacOS 13 Ventura.

Stage Manager: a new way of rearranging windows

The first new feature of MacOS Ventura is Stage Manager. It is a new way to reorganize windows on Mac. We will be able to group different windows by groups, for example, if we are in a project that requires several programs.

Stage Manager also allows us to have overlapping windows. That is, we can work with several “main applications” and have others in the sidebar to switch easily. A way to organize tabs that will also come to iPadOS 16.

Changes in Mail and Spotlight

Mail and spotlight change

Two other apps that have new features are Mail and Spotlight. The macOS Mail app includes new options such as undo sending, remember for later, and scheduled sending.

In the case of Spotlight, the MacOS search application will allow us to find information on the web for terms such as singers, where it will return information from their social networks or images.

This search is part of the quick actions that Spotlight can perform, such as starting a timer.

Passkeys: a future without passwords

Similar to what we saw with Google, Safari will adopt the Passkeys function, where they anticipate a future in which passwords will not be needed thanks to encryption keys. This feature is part of Apple’s incorporation into the Fido Alliance standard.

Using iPhones as a video camera

iPhone as a Video Camera

We were not expecting this feature and it is perhaps the most surprising. Continuity Camera will make it possible to use the iPhone as a camera for video conferencing. This will allow for example to take advantage of the iPhone’s wide-angle camera for FaceTime. It will also take advantage of features such as automatic scene lighting.

Metal 3

With the promise of improved gaming, driven by the possibilities offered by Apple Silicon processors, Apple has unveiled Metal 3. The new version of this graphics engine will enable better resolution and performance. As part of this announcement, Apple confirms the arrival of No Man’s Sky and Resident Evil Village on macOS.
