Screen and design
The similarities between the phones already begin when it comes to the screen since both offer a 6.6-inch display, Full HD+ resolution (2400 x 1080 pixels), and IPS LCD technology, considered older. Both also have Gorilla Glass 5 protection against drops and scratches and, in the case of the Poco X3, there is also IP53 certification, but it is not recommended to immerse it in water.
In common, the models also have a modern design, with thin edges and a front camera located in a hole in the center of the display. The rear cameras are arranged in a box in the center of the smartphone in both cases. The available color finishes for the Redmi Note 9 Pro are gray, green, and white, while the Poco X3 can be found in blue and gray.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro may please users who value a good photo set. That’s because the smartphone includes a quad camera, with a 64 MP main sensor, 8 MP ultrawide, 5 MP macro, and 2 MP depth sensor.
Two interesting features are the ability to combine four pixels into one, compensating for any lack of ambient light, and the ability to capture photos in RAW format.
The Poco X3 does not lag in this regard as it also offers a quad-camera with slightly different resolutions than its rival. These are 64 MP main camera, 13 MP ultra-wide, macro, and 2 MP depth sensor.
In selfies, the Poco X3 takes advantage by ensuring images in 20 MP, against the 16 MP provided by the Redmi Note 9 Pro. Both are capable of capturing videos in 4K at a speed of 30 frames per second (fps).
Performance and storage
The similarities between smartphones continue when it comes to performance and storage. The Redmi Note 9 Pro came to market with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 720 G processor with eight processing cores up to 2.3 GHz of speed. The same is repeated in the Poco X3, however, the model is a Snapdragon 232G.
Overall, both processors should guarantee superior graphics performance, favoring performance in games and video and photo editing applications. Both phones also combine this feature with the Adreno 618 GPU and the 6GB RAM, which favors the opening of several apps at the same time.
To prevent overheating, the Poco X3 even features a liquid cooling system that cools the device. In addition, the product is also compatible with Game Turbo, a tool that brings together functions to improve the gaming experience.
As for storage, both are sold in 64 GB and 128 GB versions. The difference between them is the compatibility of expansion through microSD, which in Redmi can be up to 512 GB, and in Poco, only 256 GB.
Both phones draw attention to their big battery, with 5,020 mAh for the Redmi Note 9 Pro and 5,160 mAh for the Poco X3. The battery life promise is also similar between the smartphones, being able to stay 13 hours or 10 hours of gaming away from the plugs, respectively.
To top it off, they also come standard with a powerful 33W charger in the box. In the case of the Poco X3, Xiaomi guarantees 100% fueling in just one hour of charging. In half an hour, it would be possible to get 62% battery.
Launched in 2020, both left the factory with the most current version of Google’s operating system at the time, Android 10. What changes between them is the visual interface. MIUI 11 is present on the Redmi Note 9 Pro, while the Poco X3 has been updated with MIUI 12.
Xiaomi has already confirmed that both models will receive updates for Android 11.
The phones are equipped with basic additional features, such as a P2 port for headphones, USB-C input, fingerprint sensor on the side, dual speaker, 5 GHz wi-fi in 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac bands, LTE internet, and NFC – which allows payments by proximity.
While the Poco X3 arrives with Bluetooth 5.1, the Redmi Note 9 Pro keeps the 5.0 version. Another interesting feature, present in both smartphones, is the infrared sensor, capable of turning the phone into a universal remote control for various electronics, including TV, air conditioner, and stereo.
