The Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition) and LG Velvet are high-end Samsung and LG mobile phones. The smartphones bring common features such as the triple camera and screen with Full HD+ resolution but have differences in the technical specifications on features such as battery and processor. Screen and Design
The Galaxy S20 FE is the smallest of the two, with a 6.5-inch screen and Full HD+ resolution (2400 x 1080 pixels) compared to 6.8 inches (2460 x 1080 pixels) of LG. In terms of user experience, both devices should deliver sharp images, as the pixel density per inch (PPI) of both is quite similar: it is 407 PPI for the S20 FE and 395 PPI for the Velvet.
An important difference is the fact that the S20 FE comes with a 120Hz refresh rate, which promises more fluid transitions and effects on the display. The Velvet has a 60Hz panel. However, both also come with OLED technology. The Galaxy S20 FE has a Super AMOLED screen, and the LG model has P-OLED.
In both cases, the consumer finds a screen that occupies a large portion of the front panel. However, the LG Velvet presents a drop-shaped notch, and the Galaxy S20 FE presents a centralized hole to house the front camera.
Both are still IP68 certified that will withstand 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes, but the LG goes further with military certification in the MIL-STD-810G standard that promises even more resistance. LG Velvet has three colors available that vary with light: dark gray, white, and “Illusion Sunset”, which has a color between yellow and pink. The S20 FE has six color options in red, lavender, orange, mint, naval, and white.
Cameras
Both phones have a triple camera. In the Galaxy S20 FE, the user finds a 12 MP main sensor (f/1.8 aperture), an 8 MP sensor with a telephoto lens (f/2.4) for 3x optical zoom, and 12MP ultra-wide camera (f/2.2).
In Velvet, the main camera has a superior resolution, with 48 MP (f/1.8). There is also an ultra-wide 8 MP (f/2.2) and a 5 MP depth sensor (f/2.4), responsible for detecting the depth of field used to create photos with portrait mode, a famous feature that blurs the background of the image.
In both cases, there is image enhancement performed by artificial intelligence processing. In the selfies, the Galaxy S20 FE has a higher resolution sensor: 32 MP against the 16 MP of the Velvet front camera.
Performance and Storage
Velvet is a recent mobile phone, launched in September 2020, but it bets on a processor from three years ago: the Snapdragon 845. Qualcomm’s octa-core reaches up to 2.8 GHz and is the result of a manufacturing process of 10 nanometers and although it has enough performance to serve users in their day-to-day tasks, it can end up disappointing those who are more demanding and want a more current chip.
On Samsung’s smartphone, the processor is more recent. The Exynos 990 (octa-core up to 2.73 GHz) is the same seen in the Galaxy Note 20 line and presents an architecture of 7 nanometers, which should prove more efficient in energy consumption.
The Galaxy S20 FE can be found in versions with 6 or 8 GB of RAM, while Velvet has a unique 6 GB edition. RAM is the component where the system keeps files in use and apps open. In other words, the more memory, the more fluid the system’s performance tends to be when moving through applications.
As for storage, there are options of 128 or 256 GB of capacity for the Galaxy S20 FE, while the LG model is restricted to 128 GB of capacity. In both cases, there is support for microSD cards to expand the space for data.
Battery
The Galaxy S20 FE brings a slightly larger battery, with a 4,500 mAh capacity. The LG Velvet has a 4,300 mAh component. Both phones have support for fast charging, but the Samsung phone may end up charging faster because it supports the use of 25 W chargers, which is the case of the model that comes with the Samsung smartphone. The LG can be recharged only by components up to 15 W and should recharge more slowly.
Android Version
The two mobile phones leave the factory with Android 10, one of Google’s latest systems. In Samsung’s case, the cell phone runs the One UI 2.5 interface, while the LG comes with the manufacturer’s UX9. Samsung confirmed up to three years of support and system updates for the Galaxy S20 FE, while Velvet still has no plans to upgrade to new versions of Android released by the company.

LG and Samsung vary when it comes to audio. The Galaxy S20 FE has no P2 (3.5 mm) output for headphones but features AKG’s USB-C headphones in the box. Velvet still has the 3.5 mm output but does not include headphones in the package. In biometrics, both devices bring fingerprint sensors integrated into the screen itself.
The two smartphones also have extra features. In Samsung’s case, there is support for DeX to turn Galaxy into a PC, using monitor and keyboard. For LG, there is the Dual Screen cover feature, which adds a second screen to the cell phone.
Regarding connectivity, Samsung’s device already has Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), while Velvet goes to Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac). The phones also feature Bluetooth 5.0, 4G network support, as well as GPS, and NFC to pay for approach.

Launched in November, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE can be found on Amazon for $699.
Velvet arrived in September, and can already be seen for prices in the range of $419.
