It has been three months since Sony announced its two latest high-end devices, the Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III. We have known them since April, but it has not been until now that the company has confirmed its official prices through its website.
The Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III are two premium devices. They mount the Snapdragon 888, 4K OLED screens with a 120 Hz refresh rate and its price is similar to what we have seen in other proposals in its range.
What Sony has also confirmed is their availability. The two smartphones appear on the web along with prices, and the Xperia 1 III will be available from August 19, however, there is a purchase link for pre-order while the Sony Xperia 5 III availability is unknown for now.

This is what the Japanese flagships look like
The Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III share some specifications, but they are different. The Sony Xperia 5 III is a more compact phone, with 157 millimeters in height and weighing 169 grams, while its big brother measures 165 millimeters and weighs about 190 grams. They share the thickness, 8.2 millimeters, but for obvious reasons have different screen sizes.
While the Sony Xperia 5 III has a 6.1-inch OLED panel with FullHD resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate, the Xperia I 111 mounts a 6.5-inch OLED panel with 4K resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. We will have to see how it performs on a day-to-day basis, but the screen of the most powerful model looks promising.
Under the hood is the Snapdragon 888 processor, one of Qualcomm’s most powerful to date, along with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of ROM in the Xperia 5 and 12 GB and 256 GB in the Xperia 1.
Both handsets feature a 4,500 mAh battery with 30W fast charging, but the Xperia 1 III incorporates wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. The operating system is Android 11 with the Sony layer, but it is to be expected that being recent high-end smartphones, they will be updated to Android 12 at some point.
As for the camera, it is curious that Sony, which is one of the leading smartphone camera manufacturers, has not jumped on the 48, 64, or 108-megapixel bandwagon. Instead, the two handsets mount a 12-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel wide-angle, a 12-megapixel telephoto, and, in the case of the Xperia 1 III, a 3D TOF for depth measurements. Selfies are left to an eight-megapixel sensor in both cases.
