TCL 20L and 20L+

The TCL 20L and TCL 20L+ are very similar models, starting with a design that is identical except for the colors and finishes. Both feature a very elongated module on the side with the four rear cameras, but while the TCL 20L has a glossy finish (apparently eye-catching), the 20L+ has a rougher and less “patent leather” look, while maintaining the reflections.

The screen occupies 91% of the front in both phones, according to TCL, seeing that in both the front camera peeks through a hole in the center (as we will see for the Pro). These TCL 20L come with a 6.67-inch screen with FullHD+ resolution ( IPS probably) with a refresh rate of 60 Hz. In all three phones, the fingerprint reader is on the side.

Internally it has the Snapdragon 662, of the most modest part of Qualcomm’s mid-range, in this case with 4G and thus leaving the TCL 20 5G as the option with such connectivity. There is a single version of 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage for the TCL 20L and 6 GB and 256 GB for the TCL 20L+, in both cases with an alternative to reach a 1 TB pulling microSD.

The battery is 5,000 mAh for both. A figure that is not bad, but without fast charging gives, according to the brand, a charging time of two and a half hours.

In cameras we see one of the differences, being as follows:

  • TCL 20L main camera: 48-megapixel sensor (1/2-inch, 0.8 μm pixels) and 5P lens with f/2.0 aperture and 80.3-degree field of view.
  • TCL 20L+ main camera: 64-megapixel sensor (1/2-inch, 0.7 μm pixels) and 6P lens with f/1.79 aperture and 79.4-degree field of view.

In common:

  • 8-megapixel sensor (1/4-inch, 1.12 μm pixels) and 5P lens with f/2.2 aperture and 118-degree field of view.
  • 2-megapixel sensor (1/5-inch, 1.75 μm pixels) with a 3P macro lens with f/2.2 aperture.
  • 2-megapixel depth sensor (1/5-inch, 1.75 μm pixels) with a 3P lens with f/2.4 aperture.
  • Front camera with a 16-megapixel sensor (1/3.1-inch, 1 μm pixels) and f/2.2 aperture lens.

TCL 20 Pro 5G

The Pro model stands out for being the one with support for 5G in this new batch, thus positioning itself as a somewhat more powerful alternative to the 20 5G we mentioned at the beginning. The aesthetics are similar to the TCL 20L, although with some difference on the back with these, the TCL 20 and, above all, the TCL 10 Pro.

Something that makes them unique to all three, to the delight of some and perhaps the disappointment of others, is that they have a physical key to call the Google Assistant. And in this case, there is no camera module, but instead, they peek straight out of the back in the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G style but with a side strip.

In this case, we see an AMOLED display that maintains the 6.67 inches and FullHD+ resolution. According to TCL, the panel occupies 93% of the front and in addition to the 2.0 version of NXTVISION has a higher contrast ratio than those of the other TCL 20 (2,000,000:1), but without offering more than 60 Hz refresh rate either.

This display has a maximum brightness of 700 nits and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space. HDR10 support is also added.

TCL 20 Pro 5G

At the processor level, for this TCL 20 Pro, it goes to the Qualcomm 700 series with the Snapdragon 750 5G, which goes hand in hand with the modem that supports such connection. There is a single version of the TCL 20 Pro 5G that goes with 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, expandable also up to 1 TB with microSD.

The battery becomes somewhat smaller in this mobile that is slightly more compact than the others and a little lighter. They are 4,500 mAh, but in exchange win fast charging (18 W wired and 15 W wireless) that do not have the “non-Pro” and with which they promise a charging time of two hours.

In photography, there are also some interesting changes. The proposal of main + wide-angle + macro + depth so recurrent in the less photographically ambitious mid-range is maintained, but at least optical stabilization is added in the main camera. Thus are, along with the front, the cameras of the TCL 20 Pro 5G:

  • Sony IMX582 48-megapixel sensor (1/2-inch, 0.8 μm pixels) with OIS, PDAF, and 6P lens with f/1.79 aperture and 79-degree field of view.
  • 16-megapixel sensor (1/3-inch, 1 μm pixels) and 5P lens with f/2.4 aperture and 123-degree field of view.
  • 5-megapixel sensor (1/5-inch, 1.12 μm pixels) with a 3P macro lens with f/2.2 aperture.
  • 2-megapixel depth sensor (1/5-inch, 1.12 μm pixels) with a 3P lens with f/2.4 aperture.
  • Front camera with a 32-megapixel sensor (1/2.8-inch, 0.8 μm pixels) and f/2.45 aperture lens.
  • It is capable of recording up to 4K at 30 fps and, according to the brand, the 2x zoom is lossless (with 10x digital zoom). The camera app has the usual modes, including a night mode, one of super stabilization and real-time blur in the video, also on the front camera.
