Mobvoi has a new smartwatch in its catalog. It is the TicWatch Pro S, a mid-range device that, despite its name, comes to directly succeed the TicWatch Pro 2020, launched, as its name suggests, last year. The device can be purchased from now on at $259.99/£222.99 /€259.99.
What are the changes compared to last year’s model? The most important changes are the internal storage, which is 8 GB instead of 4 GB, and some software-related improvements, but little else. Interestingly, the device continues to bet on the Snapdragon Wear 2100 (the same as the TicWatch Pro 2020), and not the Snapdragon Wear 4100 that debuted the TicWatch Pro 3 GPS.

Dual screen and more memory
As far as design is concerned, the device retains the aesthetic lines of the models previously released by the manufacturer but adopts a somewhat sportier approach. Thus, it features a 45-millimeter case which is 12.6 millimeters thick with two side buttons, microphone, and speaker, which anticipates the option to answer calls and invoke the Google assistant.
For the display, Mobvoi has chosen to maintain its commitment to the dual-panel. Like the TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, the TicWatch Pro S has a 1.39-inch AMOLED panel with 400 x 400 pixels resolution and, just above it, a low-power FSTN display. That way, the watch activates the AMOLED display when we want to get the most out of it and the FSTN display for always-on mode and battery saving mode.
Inside there is 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage, double that of the previous model, and that is the most notable change. The processor is still the Snapdragon Wear 2100 (curious that Mobvoi has not opted for the new Qualcomm, whose performance has already been more than proven). It has a 415 mAh battery and promises between two and five days of autonomy in smart mode and up to 30 days in power saving mode.
The rest of the changes are at the software level. The watch has Wear OS, Google’s operating system, but proprietary apps have been added such as TicExercise 3.0 (with 13 sports modes and VO2 Max), TicSleep 2.0 (which analyzes sleep and now works in essential mode), TicBreathe (breathing exercises) and TicHearing (loud sound alerts). These last two, until now, were only in the TicWatch Pro 3.
Otherwise, the device still has an integrated GPS chip, NFC for mobile payments, Bluetooth 4.2 connection, IP68 water resistance (which allows it to be used for swimming), and 810G military resistance.
