Singers, presenters, politicians and famous football players are among the most followed accounts on social networks in 2019. The Global Media report by Data Reportal, We Are Social and Hootsuite has named former U.S. President Barack Obama as the most popular Twitter account, Cristiano Ronaldo as the famous one with the most followers on Instagram, and last year’s most popular personal profile on Facebook. The list also features more politicians, the Kardashians, and music celebrities like Justin Bieber and Katy Perry.

The most followed accounts on Instagram are singers, but the official account of the application itself is the most followed profile on the whole social network. Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Beyoncé, and Taylor Swift have, if combined, almost 600 billion followers. The Kardashians are very successful in social networking: the sisters Kylie Jenner, Kim and Khlóe occupy, respectively, the sixth, seventh and seventeenth place in the ranking.

The vast majority of the most followed profiles on Twitter are singers. In the microblog, the artist with the most followers is Katy Perry, followed by Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga. A quirky fact is the presence of three politicians among the 20 most followed accounts, including the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. Besides him, Barack Obama and Donald Trump are in the first and tenth positions, respectively. American presenters Ellen DeGeneres and Jimmy Fallon are also on the list.

On Facebook, the official pages representing soccer teams and brands appear as the most popular accounts on the social network.
