Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4: Features, Reviews, and Price

Big horse, whether it walks or not. That’s what Xiaomi may have thought with the launch of its new high-flying tablet, the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4, a device that surprises with its 12.4-inch diagonal.

The proposal of the Chinese manufacturer offers the possibility of using the tablet as a laptop thanks to an attachable keyboard but also draws attention to the integration of a module of three sensors that certainly pose interesting options.

This screen gives a lot of room for maneuver

This is a “maxi” version of the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro that we were introduced to a few months ago. They share a good part of the specifications, but here the clear difference is in the screen diagonal, which goes from 11 to 12.4 inches.

That difference gives even more leeway to those who want to take advantage of that larger work (or leisure) area. The display boasts a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, a maximum brightness of 500 nits, and support for 120 Hz refresh rates.

This large diagonal makes for a large-format tablet with a thickness of just 6.66 mm. The weight is also not exaggerated for this screen and is 620 grams.

It is also compatible with HDR content thanks to Dolby Vision technology, which is combined with Dolby Atmos in the sound section, and four speakers that will undoubtedly help to enjoy video and music content on this tablet.

The heart of the tablet is the Snapdragon 870 that the 11-inch model already has, and there are versions with 8 and 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage.

The battery goes up to 10,000 mAh and there is support for 67 W fast charging (charges 100% in 68 minutes). Xiaomi claims that this tablet can withstand about two days without recharging in more or less conventional sessions and use.

We like that front webcam

In Xiaomi they wanted to make a nod to one of the classic complaints of the iPad: Apple tablets place the webcam in the central part of the “short” side of their rectangular design, but in the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4 that webcam (which is also 20 Megapixels) happens to be in the center of the long side.

That makes the tablet can be used more naturally when used for video conferencing and certainly enhances that behavior as a work laptop for all types of users.

To access it, however, it will be necessary to purchase the keyboard case, which is not included as standard. This case takes advantage of the larger size of the tablet and has a full-size keyboard. This case allows the screen to be positioned at two different angles (110º and 122º).

There is no touchpad integrated into that keyboard case, and to position the cursor we can use the touchscreen with our fingers or with the Xiaomi Smart Pen, which is also available as an option and can be recharged while magnetically attached to the top edge of the tablet.

Another of the best interesting in that ambition to raise a working device is that of its USB-C connector with a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface, which also allows you to use it to connect the tablet to an external monitor.

Xiaomi has even created an accessory, a kind of “Chromecast” that connects to the tablet (499 yuan) and allows casting our tablet to a monitor or larger TV to work more at ease wirelessly. Not only that: it is also possible to use the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4 as an auxiliary screen by connecting it to our PC or laptop.

The Android 12 operating system and the MIUI 13 for Pad customization layer also allow you to take advantage of this device in this “portable” format: it is possible for example to work quickly with two windows thanks to a simple shortcut and the system allows you to make use of resizable widgets that display useful information on the desktop.
