Xiaomi TV A2: Features, Reviews, and Prices

It is a fact: Xiaomi is fighting to consolidate its position in the TV market with robustness comparable to that it has achieved in the smartphone market. This is very clearly demonstrated by its philosophy: the company’s parent company is only 100% responsible for the design and manufacture of smartphones, routers, and TVs.

It has not yet been a month since this Chinese manufacturer placed in the market its interesting TV F2 model, which is the first TV of this brand with Fire TV, but we already have here its new proposal. And it looks good. The almost total absence of frames reflects that Xiaomi has taken care of its design, although what will probably attract image and sound enthusiasts is its ability to deal with Dolby Vision, Dolby Audio, and DTS-HD content. This is what the latest TV from this brand looks like.

A mid-range with high-end design and support Dolby Vision

The heart of this TV is an LCD panel with peripheral LED backlighting and 4K UHD resolution. Xiaomi has not disclosed whether this matrix is VA or IPS type, but we suspect that it uses the latter technology because it does not resort to nanocrystals, and, according to the manufacturer, it proposes us a 90% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.

However, this panel is not 10-bit; it uses 8-bit + FRC and has a native refresh rate of 60 Hz. These are the features that put this TV a step below high-end models, which virtually always incorporate 10-bit, 120 Hz matrices. Even so, FRC (Frame Rate Control) technology manages to generate a wider color space by using adjacent pixels of different colors that give us the sensation that we are looking at a third color that is not part of the color space of the 8-bit panel.

Xiaomi TV A2

One of the most attractive features of this TV is its ability to deal with Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG content. However, we do not know its maximum brightness delivery capacity, and, for this reason, we cannot guess what experience it offers us when it is forced to play content with a high dynamic range. One more interesting fact: its SoC is a quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 chip with Mali G52 MP2 graphics logic.

Although the TV F2 model launched by Xiaomi just a month ago uses Fire TV, the TV we are digging into maintains the bet on Android TV 10 that previous proposals of this brand have made. And when it comes to connectivity, nothing to complain about. It has three HDMI 2.0 inputs, 2 USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.0. It would have been nice if at least one of the HDMI inputs implemented the 2.1 standards, but in this price range, this feature is very rare.

Its sound, on paper, is on par with its images

The information we have reflects that Xiaomi has taken care of the sound performance of this TV. It is reproduced by two speakers driven by as many 12-watt amplifiers working in class D, but what has caught our attention is its ability to deal not only with Dolby Audio content but also with DTS-HD.

It is worth noting that some TV manufacturers, including Samsung and LG, have removed the ability to process DTS content from their offerings, but it is good news that a competitively priced brand like Xiaomi maintains this feature. Mind you, this TV is not prepared to virtualize Dolby Atmos-encoded soundtracks.
